Podiatry treatment for Children
Children
It is important that children be assessed as early as possible. It needs to be understood that not all conditions children have will be outgrown without some intervention.
Conditions may include
- Intoeing or Pigeon toeing
- Toe walking
- Flat feet
- Foot deformities
- Acute injuries
- Nail and skin abnormalities
- Pronation
- Congenital/inherited genetic conditions (Charcot-Marie-tooth, cerebral palsy, neurological conditions)
- Sever's Disease (heel pain)
- Achilles tendonitis (heel pain)
Treatment may include
- Manipulation and exercises
- corrective splints or casts
- Custom made orthotics
- Corrective footwear
- Referral to an appropriate specialist
Do not fall into the common trap of being told "Its just growing pains" Children should not have pain. If you are concerned, a podiatrist's consultation fee is a small price to pay for peace of mind. If every child grew out of their flat feet then why do we have so many adults with flat feet.
